Rosca de Reyes
Rosca de Reyes (Three Kings Bread) is a delicious oval-shaped orange/citrus flavour bread that resembles a crown and it is topped with figs, quince, cherries, and candied dried that represents the jewels.
Rosca de Reyes (Three Kings Bread) is part of our main traditions on January 6th called The three kings day, which families gather to share a Rosca de Reyes with a delicious Mexican hot chocolate. Inside the bread, you might find a little plastic doll depicting baby Jesus.
Who gets baby Jesus in their slice has to host a dinner and provide Tamales and Atole on February 2nd (Candelaria day).
Originally from Spain, this day represents when the three wise men will arrive and bring their presents to baby Jesus. The figurine of the baby hidden in the bread exemplifies the flight of the Holy family, fleeing from King Herod’s Massacre of the innocents. However, if you find this figurine is a blessing and must take it to the church on February 2nd.
La Rosca de Reyes is decorated to resemble a crown with figs, quince, cherries, and candied dried that represents the jewels.
